Editorial: Dying to diet, Hydroxycut and beyond PDF Print

We are so obsessed with weight loss, not for health reasons, but for appearances, that we’re risking our lives. People are dying or living with serious organ damage. Hydroxycut isn’t the first; remember phen-phen or ephedra? They worked for awhile and led to death. Liposuction has also caused death and injury. At what point do we stand in front of that ‘magic pill’ shelf and say, “this is not worth my life or the expense, I’m going to do this the right way.”

We want instant results and that is unrealistic. You didn’t put the weight on overnight or even in a few weeks and it isn’t coming off that fast either. I’m not preaching, I am absolutely guilty of trying most of the products on the market and experiencing the huge roller coaster of health risks and emotion that follow. I am a recovered Anorexic and want to help keep you safe.

Due to my extensive health knowledge I was able to recognize when my liver or kidneys were struggling and when my heartbeat was erratic and I stopped taking the product, but it didn’t keep me from trying the next one.

You’ve seen the Hydroxycut ads, they’re like all the before and after. Look carefully, yes some photos are doctored and notice the skin color (after is tan), haircut/color, how the clothes fit and how they stand. As a former model, we have a million tricks to looking thinner on camera, and dangerous dieting tricks as well. Diets in a bottle do not last and will not give you the perfect body. Have you seen people with kidney or liver disease? They are not pictures of health, by size or any factor. You don’t want to go down this road.

We were not designed as a massive society of a particular size and shape. Where in the animal kingdom do you even see this? Imagine if all cats were the same size, color and shape…boring!

If you want to lose weight, do it for the right reason, your health. We know that weighing less, especially losing that spare tire is the best for our hearts. You know that you will have more energy when you take care of your body. Don’t aim for a number or clothing size. Aim for life-long health, happiness, energy and looking the best in your unique way, not some silly doctored picture.
